Common questions — Bardu / Inner Troms

Quick answers from people who live here.

What is Bardu known for?

Polar Park — the world's northernmost wildlife park, with brown bears, wolves, lynx, wolverines and arctic foxes. Plus Målselv ski resort, the Setermoen military region and dog-sledding camps in the snowy birch forests around Tamokdalen.

Is Bardu worth a detour from Tromsø?

Yes if you want wildlife (Polar Park) or dog-sledding without the Tromsø crowds. 2.5 hours by car from Tromsø, or 1.5h from Bardufoss airport. Best as an overnight rather than a day trip — the inland snow forests are the experience.
